Supporting Military Spouse Employment: What We Learned in D.C.

Military spouses face a 24% unemployment rate. Last week in D.C., we saw what’s being done to change that.

 

As a sponsor of the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Employment Summit, CareSource Military & Veterans™ joined military spouses, employers, and policymakers who understand the problem—and are committed to solving it.

 

The challenges are real and specific: frequent PCS moves, resume gaps that don’t reflect skills or ambition, and employers unfamiliar with the rhythms of military life. One spouse shared her unemployment journey due to unexpected deployment schedules. That’s the kind of reality military families face every day.

But we also heard practical solutions: companies building remote work policies that can travel, conversations about portable benefits, and military spouses sharing what’s worked in their own job searches. These weren’t just ideas—they were action steps.

 

At CareSource Military & Veterans, we believe job stability and health care go hand in hand. When military spouses struggle to find flexible, meaningful work, it doesn’t just impact income—it affects overall stability, mental health, and family well-being.
